IMPERIALISM – A DEMOCRATIC AFFAIR
It has been sixty one years since the end of the Great second world war, after atomic bombs decimated Hiroshima and Nagasaki, sixty million lost there life in that wretched war, and nations vowed never to indulge in a global conflict in that scale again. One solution architects drew was the formation of The United Nations, a common ground inclusive of all the nations of the world, to address disputes, negotiate and mitigate disputed issues to avert conflicts in the future.
Has United Nations performed according to its founding principle, as it stands today, United Nation looks more and more like the cover for the old Imperial Powers, the same colonial powers which brought much misery to Africa, Asia and the rest of the world, the same powers responsible for the two destructive wars in the late century, to dominate the globe once again, this time in stealth, under the umbrella of the United Nation, under the banner of humanitarian developments, human growth and freedom for all.
How can United Nations be a common house of all and an independent body to broker unbiased resolutions with the composition of “The Permanent Members” and that of the “Security Council”, whose member states enjoys the veto power on any charter, Is that the form of democracy imposed on us now, these special privileged members unfortunately are the same imperial powers the caused all that destruction and havoc for which the body of independent council of nations was created to begin with.
A new century we thought would be a fresh start, for human development free from the nightmares of racism, slavery, genocides, famines, endless wars, atomic bombs and sheer fear, seems like this new hope is still wishful thinking. Our geopolitical world still is infected with injustice, inequality, racism, colonization and Imperial powers dominating the rest of the world with same devastating consequences, this time around with even more lethal dose of deception “Under United Nations Resolution”.
Imperialism served humanity with such deep wounds, we thought we can start to nurture them to heal in this new century, starting from African Continent to the Indigenous Tribes of South America, but little did we knew, that its wrath will come back and haunt us with deeper wounds even today, in the form of Democracy, Freedom, Capitalism and endless slavery and fear.
“Peace” ! Do we even know anymore what peacetime is like, if not in constant battle to survive in this Corporate hegemony of capitalist agenda, where consumerism takes over humanism, when our minds are plugged in the media tube, doing whatever, believing whatever the tube tells us, also on top of that a constant fear. Our society today has become ever more fragmented, nations divided, religions at each others throat, cultures obsolete, today one percent of populations holds the wealth and resources of the rest, and the rest is fighting each other with every means necessary to survive. Is this the world the visionaries behind United Nations envisioned while creating a common house of all the nations in 1945, is this where the world was supposed to be !! I don’t expect the answers from the United Nations, or from any visionary, I can simply get my answer by looking at United Nations actions from last last year alone, judging them for last sixty years will only bring back nightmares.
March 17h of last year, UN issued Security Council resolution 1973 on Libya, a sovereign country with unbelievable success in human development enjoying the highest standard of living in Africa and Middle East. This resolution was imposed in the name to protect Civilians, apparently being killed by its own government, NATO was appointed to maintain a no fly zone over Libya, instead Nato today is responsible for bombing Schools, apartments, hospitals, thousands dead by UN Resolution Missiles “Humanitarian Missiles”.
Palestine, unfortunately is still the issue, do we still believe that UN is unbiased, majority of the nations inside the general assembly voted for the creation, i.e., recreation of the state of Palestine, conceding already 78 percent of what was stolen from them in 1948 by european jews wanting to have a country, which they named Israel with total support from United Nations. Even after almost 80% countries voted for the recreation of Palestine so that whatever remains of the once proud Palestinian people be given a chance to live in basic human conditions after sixty years of living in Concentrations Camp like situations scattered around around the same land what used to be theres.
UN failed even after sixty years, even after ninety percent of the member states voted for there cause, one special country United States authorized there divine veto power to block it, hence denying these helpless people the right to live. Democracy indeed. Irony is, when this same organization goes around bombing other countries to submit to there form of democracy, freedom.
United Nation, if not reformed to address every issues bilaterally, to promote justice, peace and equal rights to every citizen of the world, mediate all issues in a unbiased manner, it will lose whatever legitimacy it still has, if not , very soon its sign board will be seen as United Headquarters of the Imperialist Nations.
