‘IT’S TIME TO BAN JAMAAT’
Awami League Presidium Member Mohammad Nasim on Wednesday observed that it was high time to make a decision on whether the politics of Jamaat-e-Islami should be banned for opposing the nation’s independence and unleashing violence recently.
“It’s high time to ban the politics of Jamaat since the International Crimes Tribunal in its verdict mentioned that the Jamaat and its leaders and activists were involved in war crimes,” the former Home Minister told a function in Pabna district.
Nasim said the Islamist party and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir should be banned immediately for their resorting to violence and launching attacks on the people and policemen across the country demanding the release of their top leaders who are now facing war crimes trial.
He said the caretaker government system would not be restored in spite of the opposition demand and asserted that the next parliamentary elections would be held in a free and fair manner under the incumbent government.
The senior Awami League leader went to the Government Edward College in Pabna district to oversee the installation of a rally stage there as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit the district on Feb 2 for officially opening the 70-megawatt Bera peaking power plant.
