PM URGES MUSLIM WORLD TO BE VOCAL AGAINST ISRAELI AGGRESSION

Criticising the role of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and Arab League in stopping Israeli aggression on Gaza, the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on Wednesday called on the Muslim world to stand united against the Israeli atrocities.
‘Occupation of Palestinian land by Israel could not be accepted in any way, and just rights of the Palestinians must be established one day,’ she said. The prime minister also criticised the role of the United Nations in halting the Israeli aggression on Gaza, saying that the world body has failed to take effective steps to this end.
The prime minister expressed the views when a four-member women delegation of Iranian parliament led by Fatemeh Rahbar called on her at Ganabhaban.
After the meeting, PM’s press secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury briefed reporters.
Sheikh Hasina also came down heavily on the organisations which always talk about the human rights issues, saying that they were silent on the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
About Bangladesh’s stance on Israeli aggression on Gaza, the prime minister said her government has already strongly deplored it, while the cabinet adopted a resolution condemning the Israeli atrocities.
The Iranian parliamentary delegation praised Bangladesh’s role in Gaza issue and urged the prime minister to play a more important role in halting the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
They hoped that the big countries would come forward to this end by breaking their silence.
They also requested the Bangladesh prime minister to take effective initiatives to open the Rafah Crossing between Gaza and Egypt.
The prime minister said there have been historic and brotherly relations between Bangladesh and Iran and hoped this ties would be strengthened further with the visit of the Iranian delegation.
She said a Bangladesh parliamentary team would visit Iran.
Sheikh Hasina lauded the role of Iranian women in their country’s development and said they have consolidated their position in every field. In this connection, Sheikh Hasina mentioned her government’s steps to empower the women, saying that Bangladesh’s prime minister, leader of the opposition and speaker of parliament—all are women.
The Iranian delegation said they would try to follow Bangladesh’s efforts for women development and empowerment. The Iranian parliamentary team leader conveyed Iranian president Hassan Rouhani’s greetings to the prime minister.
In reply, the prime minister requested the Iranian team to reach her greetings to the Iranian president.
Iranian charge d’ affaires Reza Alaei were present on the occasion.
