HOW CAN THE GLOBAL CONSCIENCE STILL REMAIN QUIET : HASINA

03_09_2014-Parliament_condemns_IsraelNo matter what complaints one may have against the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, in terms of humanity, she has come through.

Premier, Sheikh Hasina is disgusted about the carnage in Palestine and condemed Israel and the western governments in strong words. She also criticized the role that the human rights activists are playing.

Speaking at an event at Osmani Auditorium on Friday, Hasina said, “I strongly condemn the Israeli attacks. How can the global conscience still remain quiet?”

More than 1,900 people were killed in attacks by Israeli forces on the Gaza Strip over the past four weeks.

Israel’s closest ally, the United States is negotiating a long-term ceasefire but has not taken a strong position in stopping Tel Aviv.

“When there’s one death here, we receive letters from the US Congress. Now there’s nothing,” the prime minister said.

“The rights groups here raise hell…. rush to the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Why are they silent now,” asked the prime minister.

Hasina asked Awami League women’s groups, who were present at the event, to raise their voices against the Israeli atrocities.

“We cannot remain silent while the murder of women and children goes on.”

“We need to protest. This could happen to us too,” she said.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs to commemorate Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s wife Bangamata Sheikh Fajilatunnesa’s 84th birth anniversary.

In spite of the fact that Sk. Hasina is right, personally I have no comment for this. There is a saying in Bengali that says “when you are happy and living in peace, ghosts comes to persuade your mind to disturbing thoughts.” I have been in enough trouble already since 1971 and now I want to live the remaining period of my life in peace, allowing the UN, HRW and others to handle what Hasina has in mind.
