NAWAZ SHARIF PRAISES BANGLADESH

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has highly praised successful actions taken by Bangladesh to fight terrorism.

He expressed his appreciation at a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday afternoon after the inauguration of the 18th SAARC summit in Kathmandu.

Hasina met him after holding another meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Crowne Plaza Kathmandu-Soaltee.

Later, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali told reporters that Sharif said that Pakistan too had some successes in containing terrorism in recent time.

He said the two leaders also shared their experiences in the socio-economic development of both countries.

Hasina informed Sharif about Bangladesh’s successes in generating power from solar energy.

The Pakistan prime minister at the time expressed interest in sending a delegation to Bangladesh to gather ideas about solar energy.

Prior to the meeting with Nawaz Sharif, Hasina had met Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala at the same venue, reported Sumon Mahbub, our Senior Correspondent travelling with the prime minister.

Foreign Minister Ali said both of them emphasised on enhancing bilateral connectivity and boosting trade and business while Koirala expressed his determination to secure SAARC member countries’ collective prosperity through joint natural resources management.

Hasina at the meeting also showed interest to import power from Nepal.

She also expressed keenness to export Bangladeshi pharmaceutical, ceramic, readymade garments, leather and leather goods, vegetables and other agro produces to Nepal.

The prime minister also met Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on the sidelines of the summit on Wednesday.

AH Mahmood Ali told reporters that the Afghan president had discussed relevant bilateral issues with Hasina.

Ghani also lauded Bangladesh’s tremendous successes in alleviating poverty.

Prime Minister Hasina later at night joined the other heads of the governments attending the summit at a dinner hosted by the Nepalese prime minister.
