A senior British Labour Party MP has praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s work on women development.

The chairman of the home affairs committee at the UK House of Commons, Keith Vaz, met Hasina on Wednesday at the Hilton Hotel where she is staying.

Vaz thanked Hasina for attending the Girl Summit and said Prime Minister David Cameron was thankful for her participation, Hasina’s Press Secretary Shamim Chowdhury told reporters.

hasina-9-wb“The Bangladeshi prime minister is not only a female prime minister, she is a global leader who has worked all her life for the development of girl children and women,” he said.

According to Vaz, Hasina’s presence was one of the key reasons for the success of the summit.

“Vaz told the prime minister his government was cautious about not causing any harm to British-Bangladeshi citizens,” he said.

Vaz recalled the Bangladesh Festival 2000 held in London and sought Hasina’s help in organising another similar festival.

The prime minister promised her full support for the initiative, Chowdhury said.
