PRESIDENT XI MEETS LEADERS FROM ACROSS ASIA

President Xi meets leaders from across Asia 2

China’s President Xi Jinping has met leaders from across Asia in Beijing, holding a series of bilateral meetings ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders meetings. Among them were Leaders from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Laos.

Ahead of the APEC leaders meetings on Monday and Tuesday, talks at the highest level have already commenced. Chinese President Xi Jinping has taken the time to meet with visiting Asian leaders.

2014110816382478368Among them were Myanmar’s President Thein Sein, Bangladesh’s President Abdul Hamid, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Laos President Choummaly Sayasone.

Cooperation, friendship, free trade and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank — dominated the agenda

While meeting with his Myanmar counterpart, Xi Jinping said China and Myanmar should promote connectivity, and cooperation in the construction of special economic zones and the improvement of people’s livelihood.

images (1)President Xi also welcomed Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He called Pakistan an “unwavering and all weather” friend of China. China will continue to back the economic growth of Pakistan and its efforts to safeguard stability. Sharif invited President Xi to pay state visit to Pakistan. He also said his country is willing to cooperate with China on fighting terrorism .

2014110816382888743Also in talks with Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid, Xi Jinping welcomed Bangladesh to join the Asia Infrastruture Investment Bank, and said the two countries must enhance ties in trade, agriculture, infrastructure development and maritime industry. Hamid said Bangladesh expects to learn from China’s experience in poverty alleviation and seize the chance brought by the Silk Road Economic Belt to promote trade and connectivity.

2014110816391889475While meeting with Lao Choummaly Sayasone, President Xi describes Laos as “good neighbor, good friend, good comrade and good partner”. Choummaly, for his part, said that his country hopes to continue to strengthen ties with China, and is ready to join the preparation work of AIIB.

President Xi meets leaders from across Asia  3China is willing to back its Asian partners during the APEC meetings on pushing a regional free trade initiative: The Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific.
